When my wife and I moved into our first home, plantation shutters became one of the things we bought to put our own stamp on the place. I’ll never forget the look on my wife’s face when we went through the house before we bought it and she noticed the window coverings. I don’t want to insult the previous owners, but they had what I would call an unusual taste in drapes. My wife whispered loudly about how hideous the drapes looked and even the realtor laughed. They looked like something out of some bizarre early 20th century burlesque show.
We knew when we put our bid in that we would need to devote some serious money to redecorating the house. When the owners accepted the bid, we immediately went to work carrying out our plans. My wife made the window coverings her own special project. She thought about some really smart looking blinds until she discovered plantation shutters. Blind work well, but many are not well constructed and they do tend to break over time. Shutters are far more durable and they do a better job of allowing you to control the amount of sunlight that comes into the house.
We used the services of an excellent window covering firm here and they couldn’t have done a better job. They came out and sized up the place, took measurements, and went to work. In just a few days they had the shutters up and even I thought they looked marvelous. What I like most about them is how easy it is to open and shut them. I’ve had problems with blinds in the past not working like intended, but the shutters open and close with the lightest pressure. I believe they’re the best thing we’ve done with the house and I expect them to last for years to come.
